Cooking Class: Make the Perfect Mochi
Instructor: Elaine Sher
Students are required to present proof of COVID-19 vaccination + valid ID at the start of class (please plan to arrive early accordingly). Failure to do so will result in a cancellation of ticket, and a refund or store credit will not be issued. Examples of valid proof of COVID-19 vaccinations are: vaccination record card, digital or physical WA state certificate of vaccination from MyIRmobile.com, or a verified electronic medical record printout from a medical provider. For more examples, please reference this visual guide.
Students will also be required to wear masks during the non-eating portions of class.
A popular dessert all over East Asia, Mochi, or No Mai Ci in Cantonese, is best described as a sweet rice dough that comes with a wide array of fillings. Elaine Sher of Dash of Soy will share her mom’s secrets for a fabulously fluffy mochi dough that stays soft for days. You’ll learn to mix and steam the dough traditionally, as well as learn Elaine's time-saving hack that reduces the cooking time from 40 to 4 minutes! From there, she’ll share the essential tips on how to easily wrap the mochi and incorporate different flavors and ingredients — from the traditional Mochi with Red Bean Paste to a more conventional twist of Chocolate Mochi with Fresh Strawberries. In addition, she will share her family's favorite Baked Mochi Cake that introduces a different take on mochi: crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Recipes are naturally vegan and gluten-free.
Class is limited to 12 people and is hands-on. Includes generous samples of each treat. Please note that event registration is non-refundable.
